THINGS YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO HELP YOUR CHILD |
· Practice at home with your child about what was learned in class. · Support homework. · Review progress reports, assessments, or graded work. · Listen to your child read out loud. · Correct homework before turning it in. · Give your child a routine. · Be involved with your child. · Ask your child how their day was. · Let your child practice writing a paragraph. · Read a story to your child and have them tell you how that stories relates to their life. Also, have them tell you the events from the story in order. · Let your child practice writing on a computer. · Have your child summarize a story after reading it to you and tell you the main idea of the story. · Help your child practice their spelling words. · Practice sight words with your child.

Second Grade Math
● 2-digit subtraction - Subtract two two-digit numbers with and without using regrouping strategies.
● 3-digit addition and subtraction – Add and subtract two three-digit numbers with and without using
regrouping strategies.
● Telling time – Tell and write the time to the quarter hour and five minute intervals. Use a.m. and p.m.
correctly.
● Money – Identify the name and value of quarters, dimes, nickels, pennies, and dollar bills. Count
combinations of dollars and coins.
● Measurement – Measure using a ruler to the nearest whole unit in inches and centimeters.
Understand which unit of length is best to measure a specific object (example: an inch would be used
to measure a pencil, whereas a yard would be used to measure a bus).
● Graphing – Draw pictographs and bar graphs based on a set of data. Solve addition and subtraction
problems based on the data in a graph, such as, “How many more …?”
Students will make a poster showing all the different combinations of coins that add up to $1.00 or
100¢. (This assignment should fall near the 100 th day of school.)
● Practice addition and subtraction facts - Students should know all addition and subtraction
facts to 30 from memory by the end of 2nd grade.
● Continue practicing recognition of place value within 100
● Practice identifying and counting coins (sets of the same coins and sets of mixed coins)
● Practice telling time by 5 minute increments, half hour, and quarter minutes
