Strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems such as counting on (8+3=__), doubles
and near doubles (6+6, 6+7), make a ten to add (8+6 is the same as 10+4), and flip flop facts
(7+3 is the same as 3+7)
Relate addition and subtraction facts (if 3+3=6, then 6-3=3)
Create and describe a rectangular array in terms of rows and columns.
Two-digit addition with and without regrouping (carry 10 ones to the ten place)
Two-digit subtraction with and without regrouping (borrow a ten by regrouping that ten for
10 ones)
Add up to four addends using strategies and properties based on place value
(45+37+25+13=__)
Use addition and subtraction strategies to solve one-step or two-step word problems

THINGS YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO HELP YOUR CHILD
Practice writing numbers to 1,000 with your child, making sure numbers are written correctly
Practice addition and subtraction facts
Add together objects from around the house such as toys, snacks, etc… up to 30
Practice making arrays using a group of small objects such as buttons. Discuss how many are in
each row to determine the total number (4+4+4+4=16).
Play a game using two dice and roll the dice twice to get two two-digit numbers. Add the
numbers together using regrouping strategies. Or, subtract the two numbers, putting the big
number on top, and using regrouping strategies to solve.
