Description
Reading is a skill by which we can learn just about anything. The better you read and understand what you read, the better you will do in school and feel good about your accomplishments. Our Reading/Social Skills Classes help students feel empowered and take ownership of their learning. Applying what we read and learn helps us set goals and gain skills toward independence.

Social skills at the K-6 level begin with the basics of learning how to get along in a structured setting with other children and adults outside of the child’s family. Particularly at the kindergarten and first grade levels, children may have had very little interaction with other people for extended periods of time.

Basic social skills at these ages include being polite to others, taking turns, making friends, and controlling one’s emotions—each one helps students adjust to the structure of the school environment and will become a major part of their lives.

Lesson completion from start to finish requires communication, planning, and appropriate use of materials and resources.

Elementary age kids are busy inquisitive bundles of energy. Their personalities are taking shape and they are developing distinct interests and talents. Understanding your children's needs and questions can ensure that you’re helping him/her stay as healthy as possible so he/she can be at his best. Learning strategies at school and home can help us instill lifelong learning, healthy habits, and confidence your child needs. Students will learn and build upon prior learning experiences to better understand their strengths and weaknesses as they build skills for independence.
